This course has been designed to help delegates plan and undertake better surveys of buildings and built structures for bats.

This course follows the content set out in the Bat Conservation Trust’s Professional Training Standards. We will cover topics such as building construction, how bats use buildings, industry guidance and the process of conducting a Preliminary Roost Assessment (PRA).

During the online session delegates will participate in a range of activities specifically designed to be delivered online. Delegates will need access to  the Google suite of programs (Drive, Docs, Jamboard, etc) to participate in these activities.

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Describe basic building construction.
  • Describe how bats use buildings as roost sites.
  • Identify a range of Potential Roost Features.
  • Refer to industry guidance, as appropriate.
  • Select suitable survey methods, depending on the stage of the process.

Pre-requisites: Bat biology and ecology course or equivalent.

Continuing Professional Development: 6 hours(certificate of attendance provided)
