Description

Want to learn more about advanced bat survey techniques? This course combines theory with practical sessions to boost your skills.

Dates: 12-14 August 2026

Venue: Tortworth, South Gloucestershire

Course leader: Jim Mullholland

This course provides an opportunity to learn more about why and how to catch bats. Alongside the theory, you’ll have the opportunity to erect BCM triple-high mist net systems and Austbat Harp Traps. We will use ATM100 Bat Lures to attract bats and, if we are lucky, we will radio-track a bat.

Online – Before we meet in person, you’ll receive some homework to complete ahead of the field session. Don’t worry, it’s only a few videos to watch.

Field session – Our field site is great; we have recorded 15 of the UK bat species there. Catching sessions are usually fruitful, we regularly catch up to seven bat species in a night.

Timings –

Day 1 – 2pm – 1am

Day 2 – 10:30am – 1am

Day 3 – 10:30am – 1pm
